Dishoom London Review Vegan, Dairy & Gluten Free Breakfast
Dishoom London Review: Craving a good curry but sick of your local curry house? How does a Bombay Omelette, Vegan all-day Breakfast and The Big Bombay Sound? These are just a few free from and vegan dishes you can enjoy for breakfast at Dishoom.
Have you been to Dishoom before? I have, countless of times.
This is my go-to free from breakfast joint hands down.
I never visit London without pigging out on a Bombay breakfast.
Dishoom Convent Garden
Dishoom is a Bombay cafe slash restaurant based in Covent Garden yet you’ll find one in Shoreditch, Carnaby and King’s Cross.
The one based in Convent Garden is the easiest to get to.
Word of advice.
Make a reservation!
The place is ALWAYS heaving!
The wait is pretty ridiculous at times.
When I first visited Dishoom, for some idiotic reason, I didn’t take the advice to reserve a table.
Yet, its worth the wait.
Truthfully, there’s very little in London, free from food-wise, that’s genuinely worth queuing for.
Free From Menus
Before I start raving on, I must mention, they stop serving breakfast at 11:45 am.
That aside, one thing I love about Dishoom is their menus.
They have separate menus for allergy and food intolerances.
Thank goodness for that!
It beats asking the waitress/waiter…
“Does this contain dairy? Is this dish gluten free?”
Waitress/waiter answeres “umm…dunno let me check”.
For goodness sake, forget that. I’m sick of it!
I just hope more and more restaurants and cafe’s take on Dishooms free from idiot proof menus.
Anyway, rant over. Let’s get stuck into breakie.
The Bombay omelette is EGGsalent.
Stuffed with chopped tomato, onion, coriander and spiced up with green chilli.
Accompanied by fire toast and dairy free butter.
Sadly, the fire toast is not gluten free.
For some irritating reason known only to themselves,
They don’t serve any gluten free breads.
But anyway, the omelette hit the spot alright!
Cooked to perfection with a Bombay twist, it left my mouth buzzing.
Apart from the omelette, I ordered a side order of mushrooms and the BEST beans ever!
Masala beans were incredibly insane!
Trust me, once you’ve tried these beans, you won’t go back to eating Heinz.
These spiced-up beans are brimming with flavour.
I just could have done with some gluten free toast with it. But let’s not get into that again.
As for the mushrooms, well…you can’t go wrong really.
They were chunky and nicely seasoned.
The Big Bombay
If your ONLY dairy intolerant, then you can enjoy a juggernaut of a breakfast…The Big Bombay!
Pig out on FAT sausages, streaky bacon, Akuri (spiced scrambled eggs), masala beans and fire toast with dairy free butter.
Oh, and by the way, the Akuri is like scrambled eggs on steroids.
Chock-full with fried onions and ramped up with ginger, coriander, chopped chillies, and black pepper.
If your gluten intolerant, sadly, the bread and sausages are off the menu.
Listen up! Here’s a naughty idea.
Don’t forget to be cheeky and ask to replace the sausages and bread you can’t have, with 2 other side items you fancy.
Let’s be honest, your paying for the sausages and bread anyway.
So it’s only fair I say. Go on…have courage.
Vegan wise, you can opt for the Vegan Bombay.
Which I’ll be trying out on my next visit. 🙂
Looking for a lighter yet still satisfying breakfast?
kick off your morning with their dairy free or vegan fruit and coconut yoghurt dish.
Outstandingly fresh grapes, mango, strawberries, blueberries and honeydew melon.
Topped off with coconut yoghurt infused with fresh vanilla pods, and drizzled with stunningly sweet starflower honey that marries it all together.
Such a magical dish.
I always order 2 portions on separate plates instead of 1 so I make SURE I get DOUBLE the portions…hehe.
Which probably defeats the object of a skinny breakfast…ha!
But I LOVE it that much I don’t care.
Dairy Free Monsooned Malabar Latte
Wet your beak with a dairy free Malabar latte.
Made with soya milk and Monsooned Malabar coffee, it’s a perfect way to clear your mind and end a meal.
Annoyingly, I did forget to ask whether the chocolate chai could be made dairy free using soya milk??
I can’t believe I forgot. Argh! Frustrating.
They do make it with dark chocolate mind you which should be dairy free anyway.
I’ll make sure to find out on my next visit.
But for now, that’s all folks.
